One of them is the stadium a oval shaped construction that held sport events in it. The oldest known stadium is a stadium in Olympia, Greece where the Olympic games of antiquity were held from 776BC. The Olympic games was a celebration in favour of the gods, where the best athletes from all over the country gathered and showed their skills to win the competition for their cities.

They also were first to build a open air theatre and was first constructed as early as 350BC. There are some theatres that survived. Usually the ancient Greek period is associated with temples and other famous constructions that were made in that architectural period. However the main invention that was made during that period are the Capitals/Columns that held up the ceilings in temples and other buildings. This was a revolutionary discovery and was yet to show its real influence and excellence on the architectural history.

Classical Architecture column types

Doric Order: It is most used and the traditional order to associate with classical architecture. The column was first designed in Greece but developed in the Roman period.

Tuscan Order: It was developed in the Roman architectural period and didn't appear in any ancient Greek constructions.

Ionic Order: The Ionic was also widely spread and was later adopted by the Romans, it was very popular and beautiful.

Corinthian Order: The capitals ornately decorated with acanthus leaves and were similar style to the Ionic order column.

Composite Order: Is a combination of the Ionic and the Corinthian order capitals.

The Giza pyramids and others are thought to have been constructed to house the remains of the decreased Pharaohs who ruled over the great civilized ancient Egypt. Most construction theories are based on the idea that the pyramids were built by moving huge stones/mud-brick from a quarry and transporting those stones so that they could be lifted and placed into place. The pyramids are made out of mud-brick however was developed and made with stone in later stages. It was constructed so that it has an underground floor to store the tombs and treasure of the Pharaohs to show respect to them. It took 400,000 men 20 years to build.

The Nile valley (River Nile) has been one of the most influential and miraculous civilizations know to architecture, which developed a vast range of miscellaneous structures and buildings. Around about the 3rd Century BC the Egyptians started their own architectural style and started to build temples out of stone instead of mud-brick. They often illustrated figures of men, gods, kings and hieroglyphics on their buildings. That is where the tradition of engraved illustrations on buildings came from. They also were the first civilization to use columns, which in later stages were developed and became one of the most important discoveries made in the history of Architecture.
